Today we start looking at Jesus in the Apostles Creed. Exodus 6:2-13 can help us with this. The divine and the human natures are united in Jesus Christ. We call this his personal union. Jesus needed to be fully man to take our place on the cross. He had to be true God to pay for the sin of all people. In Exodus 6 he see God promising to deliver Israel from the bondage of slavery in Egypt. He did in out of love.
Say therefore to the people of Israel, ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment.
– Exodus 6:6
Jesus bring us out of the bondage of sin. Not just from a physical bondage but from a spiritual bondage. That is why Jesus had to be true man and God. He sets us free from both the physical and spiritual bondage. Alleluia!
For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
