Today we look to Isaiah 61:1-3 to tells us about the captives being set free. This text is often used in patriotic services because it connects with being freed or liberated. We see that we are liberated from the slavery of sin and free to live in the Gospel of Christ Jesus.

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor;[a] he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives…
– Isaiah 61:1

I love the great reversal that Isaiah foretold and the Jesus accomplished for us on the cross and out of the grave. In it you can find you identity in Jesus and some great living application as well.

To give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
– Isaiah 61:3
