Tonight we look at Jesus being brought before Annas the chief priest of the Jews. The Jewish leaders wanted to do away with Jesus quickly and trap him into guilty words so that he could be killed. They pressed him on both his disciples, and his teachings but they had to move him on Caiaphas. The key point is that Jesus, the Son of God, was struck.

When Jesus had said these things, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, “Is that how you answer the high priest?

– V.22

Jesus was struck, with no complaint, so that we could be healed of our offenses. Jesus was stuck and became our shield. What should not have happened to Jesus, happed to Him to keep from happening what we deserve. Did you follow that? Jesus takes the beating in our behalf. He is our shield. David understood it well. Now, so do we.

“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence.

– 2 Samuel 2:22-23
