Seven hundred years before John the Baptist was bore he was commissioned by God through Isaiah. Mark 1:1-8 share this with us and reminds us of his job description of preparing for Jesus to arrive, preaching and baptizing. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet,
“Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way, 3 the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’”
We too are commissioned as John was in our very baptism. Commissioned to do the will of God that reflects the same Job description as Jesus. “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10) We are commissioned in the safety and power of Christ himself.
