As we gather for worship this Good Friday, we come to the cross of our dear Jesus with our sin to be nailed to Him.. The words of Martin Luther prepare us well to receive all Jesus dies to give us. “By a wonderful exchange, our sins are no longer ours but Christ’s, and the righteousness of Christ is ours,” Luther writes. “He has imparted that unto us, that He might clothe us with it, and fill us with it: and He has taken our evils upon Himself that He might deliver us from them. . . . In the same manner as He grieved and suffered in our sins . . . so also we rejoice and glory truly in His righteousness” (Select Works). We exchange our sin, nailing him to the cross, for His righteousness.
